Reviews
The best feature - At the end of class, I just push the stop button and everything else happens automatically. Since students have the tab available through Collab, no need for me think about uploading, naming files, etc.
I really appreciate the flexibility and usefulness of Panopto. I find it to be a much better solution for capturing in class content compared to Zoom. The fact that the system recognizes speech and allows the students to keyword search for topics discussed during class is huge. Add in the editing tools, which can be slightly clunky but functional and helpful, and the whole package really gives me what I need to deliver high quality recordings of what happens during class.
I consider Panopto a critical / essential element of my course setup each semester.
All the above grades omit one crucial fact -- Pantopto would routinely crash in the middle of a lecture. This happened so often, and I could find no source of help to fix the problem, and some of my colleagues reported the same issue -- that I simply stopped using it, and used zoom instead. In principle, it's a good system. In practice it was unusable.
I see no reason whatsoever to continue to use Panopto when Zoom works much, much better
